Half of the bolts installed in the historic Vasa ship during the 1960s have now been exchanged for specially designed, high-alloy bolts from Sandvik. Thanks to this, Vasa is now both lighter and more stable. The weight savings is a whole five tons — about the same as if a full-grown elephant had escaped from the ship.

On Tuesday 31st, a Groundbreaking Ceremony was held for the new pickling plant at the hot production flow for tube manufacturing in Sandviken for Sandvik Materials Technology. With a custom-made shovel, Project Manager Christina Anttila made the first dig together with Michael Andersson, Head of Product Area Tube, Ulrika Silver Supply Manager Tube, and President Petra Einarsson, Sandvik Materials Technology. The new pickling line will be up and running by the end of 2017.

If you have any interest what so ever in ice hockey, you probably know the brand BAUER, one of the main manufacturers of skates and other hockey equipment in the world. Innovation has taken them to this position. BAUER actually developed the skates as we know them; with a blade attached to a boot. For the high-end skates, that blade is made of Sandvik steel.
